With a sincere desire to celebrate the genius of local artists while also helping to support important causes and communities, the emphasis of the girlstock project is to honor the creative work of women, and the spirit of girlstock is inclusive of everyone because what we have observed is that every body has a little girlstock inside.
For our 10th project, we are celebrating and supporting the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp which is an inclusive bay area non-profit dedicated to empowering girls and trans youth through music, while promoting an environment that fosters self-confidence, creativity and collaboration.
Join us as we celebrate and support the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp this September in the form of a 2 day art and music party in Oakland's culturally electric Temescal arts district. Beginning with a silent art auction party that includes poetry, live music and hot, hot, hot burlesque performances on Saturday, September 20th, we will have amazing artwork for sale where 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the Bay Area Girls Rock Camp. On Sunday, September 21st, three incredibly hot bands will grace the stage in support of this important arts camp for females aged 8-18 years old at Temescal's first live music venue, Leo's Music Club.
The girlstock project is an annual all volunteer driven event founded by San Francisco native Maei Flowers, and produced by grassroots philanthropic-minded individuals, along with the help of businesses, and by way of the artists, dancers, writers, musicians, djs, and chefs who generously give of their time and talent. To date, our collective efforts have raised thousands of dollars for local and national non-profits that are focused on helping those in need, including non-profits targeting food justice (City Slicker Farms), cancer (Women’s Cancer Resource Center), people living with hiv/AIDS (Pets Are Wonderful Support and Positive Resource Center), domestic violence (La Casa de las Madres), disaster survivors (Bay Area Red Cross & Rainbow World Fund - Hurricane Katrina) , and homeless youth (Youth Engagement, Advocacy and Housing).
